Learn a new thing this Spring

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

We’ve scheduled some new Spring lessons in both Point Grey and Edgemont.

We’ll run a Beginners Knitting class on Monday evenings in Point Grey for 4 sessions, starting on March 31. Or if you’re on the North Shore, you can learn the basics on Sunday afternoons in Edgemont for 4 sessions, starting March 23.

If you’ve already mastered the basics, try Beyond Beginners Knitting on Tuesday evenings in Point Grey for 4 sessions, starting April 1. You’ll learn how to read a pattern and make your first sweater. BBK will also run on Sunday afternoons in Edgemont for 4 sessions, starting March 23.

We’ll offer some specific project classes in Edgemont on Wednesday evenings. First up is a Fingerless Gloves class for 2 sessions starting April 7. Next will be Summer Tank Tops for 4 sessions, starting May 7.

If you have Knitters Block and are having trouble finishing a current project, consider registering for “Complete That Project”. It’s a 2 session class on Thursday evenings in Point Grey, starting April 3.

Friday afternoons we’ll offer a Beginners Kids Knitting Class in Point Grey for 3 sessions, starting April 4. Invite a friend to sign up with your child to make it even more fun. The best kids class we’ve ever run was for 4 young friends who learned to knit together and had a ton of fun doing it. We recommend a minimum age of 8 years for this one.

Last but not least is Knitting Q and A, held most Sunday mornings in Point Grey. Get help with your current knitting project in a quiet semi-private lesson.

Check out our class schedule or phone us for more information. Many of these classes will fill up very quickly so sign up early to avoid disappointment. We hope you’ll find something that interests you. And if you’d like to learn a skill that’s not offered, please let us know! We’ll try to help you out.

Juicy New Yarn

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

We unpacked a bunch of boxes from Blue Sky Alpacas today. Ooh la la. We love the juicy new colours of Alpaca Silk. With names like passionfruit, guava, lime, mango and papaya we just know you’ll be in a happy place while you knit or crochet your new Spring project.

We’re also enamoured of the 5″ rosewood needles that come in collectible tins:

These needles are polished to a brilliant luster that shows off the gorgeous grain patterns without the use of harsh chemicals. They’re handcrafted by highly trained and skilled Vietnamese artisans who work in family-owned and managed businesses that offer training and opportunity to their workers. There are six sizes, US 0 – 6 (2mm to 4.25m). The tins have a different design and colour for each size. So cute and practical as well.

There are some great new Blue Sky designs. Check out the stunning Fitted Evening Top, knit with Alpaca Silk. This would be perfect for those warmer spring and summer evenings that are just around the corner.

There are also some great patterns for the new 100% organic, Skinny Cotton. Have a look at the Skinny Cardigan, the Lacy Wrap Sweater and the Sleeveless Wrap Top.

And we like the Tie Sweater that’s knit with Suri Merino. This wrap won the “most popular new design” at Blue Sky’s TNNA booth.

Last but not least, there’s the 1930’s Inspired Evening Gown that’s crocheted with Alpaca Silk. This gown opened the Fashion Show at the TNNA convention. It’s a gorgeous, glamourous gown, inspired by a bygone era. If you’d rather have a knee-length cocktail dress than a floor-length gown, just shorten it up. We think it would be lovely either way.

Blue Sky Alpacas greets each new season with stunning designs that never fail to inspire us. They’ve done it again with these great new styles. We can’t wait to see your finished projects.

Our February Newsletter went out today. (Better late than never). Drop us an email if you’d like to subscribe. And have a great weekend!
