Olann is an incredibly soft 100% wool that we just received from Fleece Artist. Each skein has 90 grams or 100 meters. Knit this on a 6mm needle to get a chunky 14 stitch gauge – it would make a lovely winter scarf!

We have the following colours in stock: topaz, cedar, morgana, blackberry, labrador, amethyst, twilight, aurora, peacock, victoria, earth, red fox, and ruby.

** Olann is currently at our Point Grey location only, but will arrive in North Vancouver on Tuesday**

Stocking Stuffers

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Lantern Moon’s Peppermint Swirl Tape Measure is the top seller for stocking stuffers at Christmas time. Limited amounts in stock, so hurry to get them while they are still here!

Namaste Buddy Cases are great for storing all your notions. The inside is magnetic, so you won’t lose any of your darning needles anymore!

The Knit Kit is a must for traveling knitters. This kit includes a crochet hook, stitch counter with lock, thread cutter, measuring tape, scissors, point protectors, and stitch markers.
*white has been discontinued, but we have plenty of black knit kits in stock*

Our last order from Tilli Tomas came in an extremely tiny box. We were sent mini skeins of Planet Earth; 100% silk, 25 yard skeins with either beads or sequins. These tiny skeins are adorably cute and can be used for small delicate projects.

“It Itches” is a hilarious new book to our shelves, and a great last minute buy. You’ll be in stitches (excuse the pun) while reading this one!

If you can’t read the caption below, it says “You’re cute Rodney, but I never ply on the first date.”

Soak is our favourite wool wash and is extremely delicate on knits and other fine fibers. Soak is an easy to use, rinse-free product with amazing scents!

To finish off a sweater or to embellish a shawl; this is the perfect shawl pin. We also have Annie Adams buttons, stick pins, and key chains.

And last, but certainly not least, one of our favourites… Lantern Moon Sheep Tape Measures. These are great for knitters, sewers, and designers. If you’re lucky, you may even find the black sheep of the bunch!

We have plenty more ideas for stocking stuffers and gift ideas, so come in and get help from some of our expert staff!

**Please note that we will not be open late on Fridays for the next three weeks (December 18, 25, and January 1)**

Advent Calendar for Knitters

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

I love advent calendars.  As a child we had a very simple one and I anticipated finding tiny treasures throughout the month.  I remember small coins and tiny chocolates and thinking how magical it all was.  One year, my sister gave me a felted advent calendar where she knitted, sewed, and pieced together tiny ornaments to place on a felted green tree for the 25 days leading up to Christmas, including a felted star for the top of the tree.  It was the best present and I cherish it to this day.

When I found the Garn Studio site with their version of a Christmas knitting calendar,  I was thrilled and thought many of you might enjoy the daily projects that unveil themselves throughout the holiday season.  Enjoy!

Greetings from the High Arctic

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Michelle, one of our wonderful customers, sent us these images from her expedition to the Arctic.  She gave 16 of these beautifully coloured hats to her family when they arrived at the Resolute Bay airport.  There was no question that everyone on the expedition knew who they were.

This pattern, designed by Alexa, is available at the store and looks stunning knit up with Malabrigo yarn.  Not only that, but you can make two hats from one skein!  And, given the Arctic weather in Vancouver these days, everybody needs some extra head warmth.

Our special this week is Louet, Bonnie, a smooth, soft yarn that knits beautifully and felts fabulously.  Was $7.95, now 40% off, at $4.77.
