olann-005

Olann is an incredibly soft 100% wool that we just received from Fleece Artist. Each skein has 90 grams or 100 meters. Knit this on a 6mm needle to get a chunky 14 stitch gauge – it would make a lovely winter scarf!

We have the following colours in stock: topaz, cedar, morgana, blackberry, labrador, amethyst, twilight, aurora, peacock, victoria, earth, red fox, and ruby.

** Olann is currently at our Point Grey location only, but will arrive in North Vancouver on Tuesday**

Our last order from Tilli Tomas came in an extremely tiny box. We were sent mini skeins of Planet Earth; 100% silk, 25 yard skeins with either beads or sequins. These tiny skeins are adorably cute and can be used for small delicate projects.

Advent Calendar for Knitters

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

571-1

I love advent calendars.  As a child we had a very simple one and I anticipated finding tiny treasures throughout the month.  I remember small coins and tiny chocolates and thinking how magical it all was.  One year, my sister gave me a felted advent calendar where she knitted, sewed, and pieced together tiny ornaments to place on a felted green tree for the 25 days leading up to Christmas, including a felted star for the top of the tree.  It was the best present and I cherish it to this day.

When I found the Garn Studio site with their version of a Christmas knitting calendar,  I was thrilled and thought many of you might enjoy the daily projects that unveil themselves throughout the holiday season.  Enjoy!

Greetings from the High Arctic

Michelle, one of our wonderful customers, sent us these images from her expedition to the Arctic.  She gave 16 of these beautifully coloured hats to her family when they arrived at the Resolute Bay airport.  There was no question that everyone on the expedition knew who they were.

This pattern, designed by Alexa, is available at the store and looks stunning knit up with Malabrigo yarn.  Not only that, but you can make two hats from one skein!  And, given the Arctic weather in Vancouver these days, everybody needs some extra head warmth.

Our special this week is Louet, Bonnie, a smooth, soft yarn that knits beautifully and felts fabulously.  Was $7.95, now 40% off, at $4.77.
