I think I can officially call myself obsessed with the Antler Cable. I have now designed mittens, a hat, and a cardigan featuring this simple graphic cable. I took a little step further with the cardigan though….

Meet Antler, part of the latest Tin Can Knits production Pacific Knits. With the launch upon us (it’s this Friday at 7 in case you forgot) you can find this sweater in the window at point grey. It features an antler cable, it is knit in Madelinetosh Vintage in the colourway Antler, and the buttons? Vintage antler buttons of course!

This cardigan is knit from the bottom up (yay, hardly any seeming!) and is sized from wee one to 4XL. The matching hat (also in a wide range of sizes) is a freebie you can download here. The yarn for the hat is Madelinetosh Vintage and we used the colour Twig.

We have 2 great new yarns from SweetGeorgia and (of course) I’m thrilled. We have the new Superwash Chunky, perfect for accessories and children’s items (it’s so hard to find a superwash in a nice chunky weight!).

We also have Silk Mist, a lovely combination of silk and mohair. While silk and mohair are really always popular, they are really quite dreamy in the subtle variations of SweetGeorgia’s hand dyes. The best part? A great selection of Felicia’s colourways, it’s like walking by a misty rainbow.

I am loving some chunky yarn these days (quick is key) and I’m smitten with our new colourway Shipwreck too! Something about cooler nights always boosts my enthusiasm for chunky yarns. They are perfect for a cowl or a hat, maybe some mittens too! Perhaps Jane Richmond’s Dogwood Set? Pick up a couple of skeins and go wild! You’ll be done before the weekend is over!

Sitka Spruce

Sitka Spruce

I’m proud to announce that Pacific Knits is launching at Urban Yarns September 21st! This book has been a year in the making (really since 9 Months of Knitting was released) and I can’t wait for everyone to see it. Pacific Knits has 18 irresistibly earthy patterns, almost all ranging in sizes from newborn to 4XL. We’ve got something for everyone: lace, colourwork, texture, and cables. There are mittens, hats, scarves, shawls, socks, tops, and sweaters fun for the whole family!

Kits Kerchief

Pacific Knits is a collection of patterns inspired by the Pacific northwest, where we both grew up. Wild and pretty, rustic and urban we love the city we come from and the nature that surrounds it. From camping in the great outdoors to strolling down Main street with your grande latte, it’s a great place to live!

My delightful design partner Emily is in town and both of us will be signing books, chatting, and at least Emily will have wine in her hand from 7-9. We will have all the samples from the book and look forward to seeing everyone there!

Hooray Cardigan

Hooray Cardigan

While I love to knit the summer away, this is not the same for everyone. Some people don’t knit on vacation (*gasp*) and some have kids at home for the holidays. Some are busy entertaining on the patio and some would rather be at the beach (and sand and knitting are not really great together). Some knitters travel, some knitters camp, some enjoy a stay-cation around town, and some just don’t like sticky knitting fingers. For all of these reasons this KAL had a long timeline!

Golden Wheat

So long in fact, you may have forgotten about Veera. Not to worry, our show off party won’t be until the 28th of September, still enough time to whip up a sweater right? If you have already started awesome, if not there is still time to peruse her great patterns and pick something simple but fun (I feel this is Veera’s specialty). So grab some yarn (there are a TON of new ones around the shop), a Veera pattern, and needles to match!

So far I have managed to keep Hunter from feeding/carrying her brother (mostly) but I was feeling really out of the knitting loop so yesterday I passed the kids to Daddy and spent some solid Ravelry time. It’s not that I NEED a new project with new yarn to match, it’s just that I was looking for an excuse….What should I come across but the latest pattern from Felicia of SweetGeorgia, Twig Shawl!

twig-closeup_medium2

It’s just what I needed, something fussy to work on in the evening or during nap time! I love how rustic meets delicate in this lacy shawl. The twig pattern is earthy while the fine yarn and open work is sophisticated and pretty. I love a good shawl and one skein of Merino Silk Lace will make a big one or two smaller scarf-sized shawls.

Meet Jones Stanley Richardson, newest knitter on the scene! He was born on Sunday morning 7 lbs 14 oz and home by Sunday night sleeping in his own bed. It’s been a bit warm for sweaters but I have a few in the wings just waiting for him to put on a few pounds and the weather to cool off. He will be decked out in Tin Can Knits with a cute little Gramps sweater (because lets face it, he looks like a little grampa) and some knits from the newest collection!

Big sister Hunter loves him (with a little too much vigor at times) and demands to hold him. I’m just trying to keep her from giving him Cheerios and trying to pick him up by herself. Thanks for all the good tidings and I’ll be back at knit night soon!

Emily and I (jointly Tin Can Knits) have been working diligently for the last many months to put together our second collection : Pacific Knits. 18 irresistible earthy knits with sweater patterns ranging in size from newborn to 4XL and many access to choose from. All patterns inspired by the Pacific north west, our neighborhood! The book went to the printers this past week and I will keep everyone posted for the launch in September. We have decided to pre-release one of our patterns due to popular demand, so I introduce to you, Low Tide.
pk-lowtide-05_medium2
This cardigan is knit in a couple of pieces but stitches are picked up so there is very little seaming. The other draw of this summery lightweight cardigan? It looks good on everyone! Emily’s genius construction and design make this a seriously pleasing knit. It is done in sock weight yarn but with cap sleeves and lace it only takes a few skeins to get it done. We worked in Tosh Sock but really and beautiful hand-dyed yarn will do!

Kynna’s most recent shawl has to be one of my favorite knits of hers of all time. The colour and pattern combination is amazing and the finished product is gorgeous! It’s the perfect time to start a ‘back to school’ or a ‘back to whatever’ project and I think Shattered Sun might be just the thing!

dsc_0288_medium2

The pattern is Shattered Sun by Felicia from SweetGeorgia. The pattern calls for a lace weight but it’s a shawl so really any weight of yarn and needles to match will do. Kynna went with a sock yarn for her shawl and it came out a pretty perfect size! Some SweetGeorgia Cashsilk Lace, or perhaps some Merino Silk Lace would both be great choices for this shawl. Cashsilk has that cashmere appeal to it but Merino Silk lace has a silky sheen…..is there a bad choice here?!

As my second book goes to print and my second baby takes forever to get here all I have to do now is wait. Waiting is not my finest hour so of course, I knit. I knit and think about what everyone says about second babies: you just don’t take as many pictures of them. I’m beginning to think this must be true because I already take fewer pictures of Hunter than when she was REALLY little and lately all the pictures of her are blurry, not because I can’t take a picture but she’s a mover and shaker and I love that about her.

madelinetosh-65

This got me thinking about baby #2’s knitted wardrobe. It is a little sad really! He has a pair of booties and 1 sweater. Although I plotted many other knits, I haven’t actually managed to cast on for any of them! I’m pretty sure Hunter had several sweaters, a blanket, many many hats, three pairs of booties, and a couple of pairs of legwarmers by this time! So today I cast on for a second sweater but I’m really hoping babe gets here before I’m done!

madelinetosh-107

I’m working with a new yarn in the shop, Madelinetosh Tosh Sport. We have a gorgeous rainbow of colours, which I was immediately drawn to and I picked up some Grasshopper, Cousteau, and Chamomile to make something a little crazy, a little bright, and a little Fair Isle. It’s machine washable but I have to admit I still hand wash all my knits. It’s a great habit to get into and it’s really not that bad!

I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve written these words: there is something new from Blue Sky! It’s like music to my ears! The latest and greatest is their new yarn Metallico. A sumptuous blend of mulberry silk and alpaca (of course). It is oh so soft and has a pretty sheen to it.

1614-1

Metallico comes in lovely sophisticated pallette of natural shades of creams, greys, and tans. There are also pattern to go with this new yarn and here are a few to check out!
